Ghosts, Legends & Medieval Underground
75 minutes of Old Town legends, a hidden alchemist’s lab, and a candlelit dungeon.
What this tour is about

Prague’s Old Town holds onto its darker history more than most European capitals. This tour walks you through it after dark — narrow lanes, half-forgotten cemeteries, and a costumed guide sharing the legends that still cling to these streets, from betrayed lovers to a headless bride said to still wander nearby.
Beyond the storytelling, the tour takes you somewhere most day-trippers never go: down into Prague’s medieval underground. You’ll hear about the plague years that swept through the city in the 14th century, see a recreated alchemist’s laboratory tied to the legend of the Golem, and finish in a dungeon lit only by candlelight — home to a display of genuine medieval execution instruments and the story of Jan Mydlář, the executioner behind the 1621 Old Town executions.

The Route
The walk moves through several of Old Town’s most atmospheric corners before heading underground. Expect stops around Old Town Square, past the Pivnice U Kata (the historic „Executioner’s“ tavern), Franz Kafka Square, and into Josefov — Prague’s former Jewish quarter. From there, the group passes the Church of the Holy Spirit and a few of Old Town’s quieter backstreets before reaching two undisclosed underground stops: the alchemist’s laboratory and the dungeon itself, kept as a surprise until you arrive.
Exact route and timing can vary slightly depending on the group and guide.
Meeting Point
The tour begins at Prague Underground Tours‘ starting point in Old Town, a short walk from Old Town Square. The exact meeting point may vary slightly depending on your chosen language option — this is confirmed on your booking.
Languages
This tour runs with a live guide in English or German — pick your language when booking, since it determines which group and meeting point you’ll join. For safety and group flow, guides ask that everyone on a given tour understands the chosen language, as translation isn’t provided mid-tour.
