What you’ll hear about
All three tours draw from the same well of Old Town folklore. One recurring legend is the Golem — a creature said to be shaped from river clay to protect Prague’s Jewish community, who eventually turned on its creator. Another is the 1621 execution of 27 Bohemian noblemen in Old Town Square, still marked today by 27 crosses set into the cobblestones. And the Astronomical Clock has its own dark tale: that its maker was blinded once the clock was finished, so he could never build another to rival it.
Whichever tour you pick, you’ll be walking the same streets where these stories are said to have unfolded — after dark, when Old Town takes on a different character entirely.
What to know before you book
- Age restrictions vary. The Medieval Underground & Dungeon tour isn’t suitable for children under 8, and isn’t recommended for anyone with claustrophobia or mobility issues, since it involves underground passages and stairs. McGee’s Old Town tour isn’t suitable for children under 10. The Ghostly Legends walking tour has no stated age restriction, making it the most flexible option for families.
- Accessibility differs by tour. McGee’s Old Town tour offers a wheelchair-accessible option — the only one of the three that does, since the other two involve stairs and uneven underground passages.
- Language options range widely. The Medieval Underground tour and McGee’s tour run in English and German. The Ghostly Legends walking tour is the most flexible, with guides available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Russian.
